The Journey Began 2017
When we took ownership of Hermitage Hideaway alomst 6 years ago. It was a simple property with a few buildings, tired gardens and olive groves that were all but abandoned with no irrigation and looking for love. Hermitage Hideaway needed a lot of love, which is what we gave to it. We were new to tourism but not new to business and renovations, so we got into it and loved it.
Hermitage Hideaway was group self-contained accommodation where people would simply drop their bags and head out around the Valley. Overtime we have worked to develop the property, rejuvenated the buildings, gardens, build a new pool and develop the olive grove blocks. Today we offer small and large group bookings and have also added a couples escape accommodation package for those who want to get away midweek.
We started to research other opportunities around our business to support our family of 6 and started Hideaway Private Tours in August 2020, focused on a luxury guest experience to the Hunter Valley.
The Olive Journey- 2021 Harvest
We were not sure how the olive trees would develop or if they would produce fruit, as many groves in the Hunter region are nonproductive. In 2021, we harvested our first crop with our second crop currently on the trees ready for harvest in 2023 and the positive responses to our handpicked with love marinated olives has been overwhelmingly positive.
Who would have guessed that our accommodation, olives, and tours would have grown the way it has? It was time to think rebranding in line with our new Olive production. Hermitage Hideaway Hunter Valley worked for our accommodation and Hideaway Private Tours Hunter Valley for our tours but what were we to name the olives?
The Future- Hunter Gleann Is Born
The Future- Hunter Gleann Is BornThe decision was made to rebrand the whole business to one name that embraced our range of services and offerings. It also had to be a name that was an ode to our heritage. Hunter Gleann Pty Ltd was born. With our Scottish heritage we felt it only fitting to find a Gaelic word, we were drawn to the name Gleann which is an old Gaelic word meaning Valley.
